Greetings my well wishers
Deviating from the usually serious topics on philosophy, social issues, patriortism and also my obsession with World Cinema, I’m sharing with you guys another interest of mine. No, no its not a chick or a High Society PYT, its stand up comedy.
We all know about the healing powers of laughter, and some of these stand up comedians are the Real embellishments of entertainment who have dedicated their lives to entertain us and hence improve our health.
In this monotonous world raucous hostility,a smile has become a rarity. These comedians are doing the stupendously laudable job of bringing smile on people’s faces!
And one such comical genius whose die hard fan I’ve recently become is Pakistani Punjabi comedian & classical singer from Lahore “Amanullah Khan.“ Although not as popular as Pakistan’s other comical genius Omar Sharrif, Amanullah Khan cracks me up with his major awesome stand up comedy, and this is because he is a cracker.
This man is a powerhouse. He never does any mimicry. He only talks about real things in life , all stupid & dumb things we humans do and presents it in extremely funny way. And he also makes fun of himself, which very few comedians do. His USP is his body language which he utilises Perfectly. He looks like a Creepy Freak, because of his weird hairstyle but when it comes to comedy he is giving competition to even Raju Srivastava.
Watch Amanullah perform in the video below, the laughter is Guaranteed.
I agree with you about Amanullah Khan. After watching him on TGILC last year, I went ahead and saw some of his other work. Really quality stuff. He’s one of the best stand up comics from South Asia, right up there with Raju Shrivastava and Omar Sharif. If you want to see some really top-quality stand up though, I suggest you watch George Carlin. There are loads of videos of him on youtube, trust me you wont regret it.
Aman Ullah holds the world record of longest one man show. He performed continuesly for 5 hours in a one man show.
Dear Ahmed,
I would be obliged if you can tell me that where i can watch his 5 hr standing comedy. I am a big fan of him.
Regards
Ravi
It was only after watching him on the Star TV programme ‘Indian Laughter Champion’ that I came to know about Amanulla Khan, the incomparable Pakistani comedian. Being a Punjabi myself, I could empathize with whatever he said in his jokes. He is indeed a remarkable comedian. His earthy humour proves his deep observation of the day-to-day life of the people around him. Every joke he narrates had me in splits. Particularly, the humorous story he narrated about a thief who sneaks into the house of a wrestler. The wrestler is overconfident of his ability to overpower the thief who looks weak and ineffective. The wrestler’s catch line, ‘Tel meine malya tha, langot mein ne band rakha tha, fikar menu kase na see…’ was particularly tickling. A great humorous story, indeed.
Tuli Sahb;
Most definitely the ” Tel Malya hoya ” story is too good.
Superb- these things keep happening in our day today life;
And sometimes because of our overconfidence things become a tragedy.
I am sure you had a great laugh when he mentioned – how he uses bricks to reach his home on a rainy day and when a Simpleton who’s sick reaches to a doctor and says that how he ” ate Gilehri’s poonch ” and Kali mata de mandar gaya 😀
i agree and i appreciate his performance he is realy the king of commedy . he always talks about the real things happening in villages and he cpompares them with the advance life styles he is owesome i just love his comedy and the way he walks while making the perody of respectful citizen lol
i think this kind of people are very few in number but they have abig role to let people feel happy for while in this time of crisis

Amanullah Saheb is undoubtedly one of the best entertainers.
He is so subtle and his voice is amazing; I wish if we can have a wiki page for him with links for his work done.
That will be great; As Ahmed mentioned earlier there’s a 5 hour show; I’ll pay anything to watch it.
I repeatedly keep watching his videos on youtube when i feel low; and man is he a punjabi soul !
I definitely agree with the points which he put forward.
He’s a Legend and deserves much more than he has got.
Wish I can meet him someday.
He is the king of comedy he have done the most stage dramas any body has done in Pakistan but his bad luck is he is born in Pakistan
amanullah khan is proud of punjabi language.as gurdas mann says is their song that, besak chutklia da v sardar punjabi e
Well, to be honest world has just seen Amanullah for his quality but for those who knw him throughout his career rate him simply a ‘legend’.
He cudnt get world wide fame bcz of punjabi comedy which isnt well knwn all over. but he is called ‘king’ on punjabi stage.
This video is just a clip. if u realy wana see his comedy see his punjabi stage dramas on youtube.
Omar sharif is fine but Raju shrivastav cant be compared with him by any means.
Infact most of the comedy being done on karachi stage is a stolen material 4m punjabi stage.
Bilal is quite right. Lahore stage produce finest comedian. We have big name like Sohail Ahmad,Amanullah, babu bral, Mastana. The list is so long. Unfortunately, Stage is dying now. Babbu Bral and Mastana died last week, Sohail ahmad and Amanullah quit theater and Moin Akhtar another legend from Karachi died today.
Government and investors has no plan to save theater culture.
We can observer their art on youtube
My indian friends must watch “kotha, Shartiya meethay, bada maza aey ga”
you might get an idea why we consider them the legends
Hello everybody, Amanullah is the king, real king of comedy. Why isn’t he that much popular and famous( in india) as Omer sharif, bocs, of Punjabi language. I am a punjabi, & have been watching Amanullah since 1985,
All his jokes of punjabi are just translated in urdu(hindi) by Omer sharif. As hindi/urdu is undertood by majority in the subcontinent, so Omer became more famous in india whille punjabi is spoken/understood, just in 1 province( on both sides of border). Just watch some old dramas of Amanullah, in the late 80s & early 90s, then u will come to know, OMER SHARIF, & SHAKIL SIDDIQUI tell no new jokes, all translated from punjabi to urdu/hindi
Hence they got more popularity in india, by speaking language of the majority.Having said that , I must say, I am proud of Omer & Shakil as well, but they r not the King..thats the only one Amanullah khan. Thanks a lot
Amanullah Khan sahib never been to the school and started his professional life as a candy seller in lahore streets in late 60s and early seventees. I remember his best days in the seventees when he appeared in his first stage drama “Sixer” as USTAD KOREH(BITTER) KHAN. Then he never looked back.I remember once the Principal of Govt Colleage Univercity(Then Govt Colleage) betted that there is no way one single person can have such a vast power of observation and lost his bet to another Professor Amjad Islam Amjad who is a well known poet by himself. Zia Mohauddin once came to lahore and asked his friends to see Ustad Amanullah sahib so he can say that he met him. Umer Sharif is a great comedian and the author of several books as well, but why he never impresses Lahories or Punjabis? Because what ever stuff he uses in his comedy now– we heard it from Ustad Amanullah on the Lahore stage 10 or 15 years ago in punjabi. If someone Knows Amanullah closly knows that we are indebt of this gift of God after Munawwar Zareef Sahib.

I think among the present lot of stand-up comedians seen on TV Sudesh Lehri and Krushna Abhshek are the best. Kapil Sharma is also in their league. Among Pakistani stand-up comedians who some time back were often seen on Indian TV channels, Amanullah was simply unsurpassable. What makes his earthy comedy unique is his deep understanding of human actions and reactions in a particular situation. His humorous anecdotes about rural people of Punjab shows that, like Sherlock Holmes, he observes the nuances of human behaviour with keen interest and then builds up his funny stories around them.
Unfortunately, strained relations between India and Pakistan are not allowing the free two-way movement of stand-up comedians of our two countries. One would very much like to see Amanulla on Indian TV channels.
No doubt Amanullah living near my streat at Lahore is the ever best comedian of Pakistan an down to earth as well. he gave stage and theatre a new life and all successers and his colleagues hen follow him. Khalid Abbas Dar, Moin Akhtar, Omer Sharif and Sohail ahmed are all educated and comprehensive artists at their on places but as far as comedy and theatrer is concerned, Amanullah is best. Those who have watched him on Indian Channel recently, they must watch him when he was full energetic and young because now there is the age factor. For the purpose of comparison, u watch his performance as MADARI (JUGGLER) at Laughter Channel and then compare his real performance 15 years back in his stage drama Kangley Paruhnay part 2 (clip numbers 14, 15 & 16) and u will find this man incomprable.

All those who can understand the Ammanullah Khan Sb’s Language (i.e. Punjabi) are the luckiest one. Ammanual Khan Sb is a different soul. He is our best virtual friend of us. He makes us feel good all the time. Where ever we go he is always with us. He takes our sorrow and replaces it with joy and spreads smile to our lips. He is always welcomed on the screen. He is the special. May Allah Bless him and reward him. Pray for his health.
As most of the people have said. yes Amanullah is the greatest in his league…I have been watching him since late 80s and truly he is class of his own….I remember in 90s during a stage play in Lahore, Moeen Akhtar (Marhum) called him the greatest while Sohail Ahmad, Khalid Abbas Dar and Mastana were standing on the floor, Moin sb told everybody that I have never seen such a humble artist in my life and I remember that Amanullah bowed and touched Moin sb’s knees, As Mr. Imran Wasiq said above, his wits kept on copied by later actors and they become stars…..the expansion of Lahore stage is his legacy which Sohail Ahmad endorced in a stage play as well.
We are unfortunate that most of the times, we are unable to identify the living legends among us and treat people based on their outlook….Amanullah never claimed himself as big star but he is the original super star…..I suggest people watch his plays with Albela sb (who was another legend).
Bye
